The nation paused to remember the 75th anniversary of VE day last week, but in 2009, a group of Prep school pupils enjoyed being evacuees for the day with their lunch boxes and teddy bears in hand. The evacuation of children during World War II was designed to designed to protect people, especially children, from the risks of bombing, by moving them to areas thought to be less at risk. Operation Pied Piper, began on 1 September 1939 and almost 3.75 million people were displaced through evacuation which official ending in June 1945. Thankfully our pupils were all back home in time for tea.
